I'm a member of;

I’ve been a sports trainer with the local football clubs, Corner Inlet Stingrays, Fish Creek and Toora football clubs for the past 14 years and look forward to joining the team at Yarram Football Netball club in 2025.

Under the mentorship of Clarrie Smith, I’ve learned to apply Bowen Therapy to sporting injuries both on and off the field. This holistic technique allows the body to heal itself naturally, without being too invasive and mostly pain free. Not only have I had success keeping players on the court/ground during the season; but in the off season I’ve helped people with other health issues such as migraines, back, shoulder, knee and elbow problems, incontinence, bedwetting, stress, grief and anxiety. The expansive list of what Bowen Therapy can help you with is listed here on my website.

bowen therapy: Meaning & philosophies

What is bowen therapy?

The Bowen technique is less invasive than many other therapies, one that can be offered to all ages, genders and abilities. Bowen therapy is a natural therapy that works well alongside other modalities such as osteopathy, chiropractic, remedial massage and physiotherapy.

Look at it as another tool in your tool belt of wellness.
Bowen therapy is a non invasive therapy where we use small but purposeful maneuvers throughout the body over muscles, tendons and ligaments to help the body to relax, stop the stresses of injury, post surgery and unwellness and begin the healing mechanism.

The body responds in its own time, within its vital capacity. The moves send messages through the nervous system to instigate body realignment, without causing pain like other therapies can, helping the body to relax and receive treatment without tensing up. It’s important to note that Bowen Therapy is not massage and no oils or lotions are used.

The central philosophies of Bowen Therapy

Bowen Therapy can be beneficial in a wide range of situations. It can assist recovery from many conditions from traumatic injury to chronic illness. It is a complementary modality that enhances traditional medical treatments.

It is a holistic and non-invasive modality that uses purposeful, but not forceful manipulation and can be done through clothing on people of all ages and abilities.

The stretch reflex are moves done on the muscles where receptors are located, informing the nervous system on the state, length or stretch on the musculotendinous tissue. The receptors are stimulated during the technique used, the ‘challenge’ and ‘rolling’ which can change the pain/muscle spasm loop.

Joint proprioceptors

Are moves done around the joint directly, effecting the joint capsule and ligaments.

Stimulus is received by the nervous system which invites  a response to ‘normalise’ the function without the need for invasive or forceful interference

Fascia

Each move is done at the superficial fascia level, effecting the relationship between the fascia and the nerve, muscle or tendon being mobilised.

A Bowen session can relieve the tension in the fascia without harsh manipulation.

Harmonic vibration or resonance model

Bowen therapy moves set up the vibrational patterns which bring the body back to harmony and balance. Detoxification is often initiated during a session. Thereby improving the body’s abiltity to function at a cellular level.

Segmental viscerosmoatic spinal reflexes

by engaging these reflexes, this produces referred reactions to the internal organs through stimulation of the skin, muscles and nerves.

Acupuncture points and meridians: Many moves are directed at the acupuncture points and meridians.

Acupuncturists believe this could explain the strong vibrational component of the technique and the responses by internal organs due to the change in vibration at these points after treatment.

Lymphatics

Some moves activate draining of the lymphatic system, thereby stimulating the immune system.

Bowen therapy can be used to treat the following conditions

The person may experience relief after just the first session and significant resolution or recovery within three sessions. However, chronic or long-standing conditions or repeat injury may require additional treatments and if symptoms do not resolve, you should see your doctor. Many people with long term chronic conditions such as Parkinson’s Disease find benefits from attending regular Bowen treatments as part of their continuing treatment plan.

Your therapist may advise you not to have any other physical therapy or other forms of manipulation – such as massage, chiropractic, physiotherapyacupuncture or kinesiology – for one week after the treatment, while your body adjusts to the treatment. Fascia responds very differently when well-hydrated, so it is important to drink enough water. To aid the body in recovery, it is recommended to engage in light movement and avoid sitting for long periods.

I can also offer Reiki healing, either alone, or with a Bowen package.  This allows clients to heal both physically and spirituality.

Concussion Protocols

Currently Bowen Association Australia are undertaking a study on Concussion Protocols.

I’m fortunate enough to become a part of this study and can therefore offer treatment to sufferers of concussion, which may help to accelerate the recovery time and return to sport sooner.

Bowen Therapy aims to accelerate recovery by increasing blood flow, reducing inflammation, and assisting the body’s healing response. Have a medical diagnosis, then contact me for treatment and opt in to become a part of this study.

The below links provide further information on this study and the success Bowen Therapy is having with concussion patients.

Clients will walk away feeling refreshed, less stressed, at ease in both body and mind.

This is a personal one on one service in a peaceful rural setting, away from the hustle and bustle of town and clinical settings.
